Dear Barack,
I'm somewhat puzzled. I understand that Bradley Manning is suspected of obtaining and passing on some of the wikileaks material. Why is he being treated in such a harsh way? He hasn't been convicted. Oh, sorry, I forgot, in the US such things no longer matter anymore.
And what about the coordinated effort by various governments, business and judiciaries to shut down wikileaks and Julian Assange with service denial, freezing of funds, threats, slander, and once again imprisonment without charge. All for PUBLISHING the material, as have many other media organisations.
Is it "Can we do what we like and ignore the rights of those that are inconvenient? Yes we can!" ?
I realise, as President, you are just the top of the pile and you need to compromise to achieve anything. At the moment, those compromises are starting to look like a total sellout.
If you have no real moral fortitude, as it is starting to apear, then the promised change, will be no change at all. You have produced some useful things for your society, without much thanks, but in these topics you have failed miserably. You may not have sufficient control to stop the slide into despotism, But you have a voice, rather powerful and inspiring voice when you put it to use, so why not use it and call off the dogs?
